It’s local election time. Campaigning, such as it is in these weird times is underway. All we’ve seen of it so far is some total bullshit coming through our letterbox from the ruling Tory group on Thurrock Council trying to put a positive spin on the botched ‘re-building’ of the railway station at Stanford-le-Hope. We’d just like to remind them that when the station was demolished all the way back in February 2019, it was on their watch. A reminder – the station was demolished without anything in the way of fully worked out and costed plans for a replacement. The staff and users of the station have yet to receive a full explanation and apology from Thurrock Council for this debacle.
Here’s a small selection of the numerous posts we’ve written drawing attention to the arrogance and incompetence of Thurrock Council over their farcical handling of this project:
This is one, VERY expensive demolition site! – March 12, 2021
Stanford-le-Hope railway station – the farce rolls on – February 10, 2021
It’s been two years! – February 6, 2021
We’ve no intention of letting the council off the hook on this one. We’ve certainly no intention of letting their spin and bullshit go unchallenged. So last night (6.4), we were out affixing the laminated posters shown above to the ‘temporary’ hoardings at the front of the demolished part of the station. The last few times we’ve done this, the posters have stayed up for about a week – we hope that will be the case after this exercise.
We may be told that we could simply write to our ward councillors asking for an explanation and apology. Having read the utter bullshit that came through our letterbox the other day, we concluded that the best tactic in relation to Thurrock Council was public embarrassment…
